What can I expect from therapy?
Psychotherapy can be a powerful and life-changing experience. Participation in therapy can result in a number of benefits to you, including improving interpersonal relationships and resolution of the specific concerns that lead you to seek therapy.
How long does therapy last?
This can rarely be decided without first meeting to determine the nature and scope of your issues. Clients may chose to work on one or two very specific issues and feel satisfied with their progress after a few sessions, while others will want to work on deeper, long-standing issues which may require more sessions. As an active participant in your own therapy, we constantly re-evaluate the effectiveness and direction of the time we spend together.
How do I choose the right therapist?
Therapy is extremely effective when there is a good match between therapist and client, so, it follows that the single most important factor in therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client.
How long is a session?
Regular sessions are 45 minutes. With couples we usually agree to 90-minute sessions.
Does couples therapy work?
It works when couples have a solid foundation on which their relationship is built, good will toward each other and are willing to move toward healing and growth.
There are so many different types of mental health professionals – how do I know which is right for me?
Mental health professionals exist to improve the mental health of individuals, couples, and families. There are several different types of licensed mental health professionals, differing in educational backgrounds, training, licensure, philosophy and technique.
Does my insurance cover psychotherapy?
Most insurance plans have a mental health component. Contact the behavioral health administrator of your insurance plan to determine whether you have a choice of therapists or whether you are restricted to a specific panel.
